The Start of Russia's Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine
As of February 24, 2022, Russia has concentrated large military groupings near Ukraine’s borders. Crimea has been annexed since 2014 and is being used as a staging ground. Parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions are under the control of the DPR and LPR with Russian support. Belarus has provided its territory for the deployment of Russian troops. Ukraine has a regular army, territorial defense forces, and is beginning mobilization. Western countries are preparing sanctions, but there is no direct military intervention. The map covers the primary axes of advance: northern (from Belarus toward Kyiv), eastern (toward Kharkiv and Donbas), and southern (from Crimea). Update v2: a realistic battle for the Donbas has been added. To achieve full military control over the region, you will now have to advance from one small village to the next.
On the morning of February 24, 2022, Russian armed forces began a simultaneous offensive from the territories of Belarus, Russia, and Crimea. Missile strikes were launched against military targets across Ukraine. The Ukrainian leadership declared martial law and announced general mobilization. The outcome of the first few days remains open.
